Connect ChatGPT

Connect Rise to ChatGPT as a custom connector (MCP) so you can ask about your reporting data directly in a conversation.

Before you start

How you add a custom MCP connector depends on your ChatGPT edition:

  • Plus / Pro (individual): enable Developer mode to add a custom MCP connector for yourself.
  • Business / Enterprise / Edu: a workspace admin adds the connector under admin settings and publishes it to members. Individual users typically can't add arbitrary MCP servers themselves.

You'll also need:

  • A Rise account with reporting access.
  • The Rise server URL: https://mcp.risepeople.com/mcp

OpenAI's connector UI and the availability of custom MCP connectors change frequently. If the steps below don't match what you see, follow OpenAI's connectors help; the durable facts are the server URL and that authentication is OAuth.

Option A — Plus / Pro (Developer mode)

  1. Open Settings → Connectors (or Settings → Apps & Connectors).

  2. Turn on Developer mode (under Advanced, where available).

  3. Choose Create / Add custom connector and fill in:

    • Name: Rise
    • MCP server URL: https://mcp.risepeople.com/mcp
    • Authentication: OAuth
  4. Save. ChatGPT discovers Rise's OAuth configuration, then prompts you to sign in to Rise and approve access. Approve reports:read (and reports:write if you want ChatGPT to save reports).

If you're asked for a Client ID / Client Secret, register an OAuth app first and paste its credentials.

Option B — Business / Enterprise / Edu (admin)

  1. As a workspace admin, open the admin Connectors settings.
  2. Add a custom connector with Name Rise, MCP server URL https://mcp.risepeople.com/mcp, and OAuth authentication.
  3. Publish it to the members or groups who should have access.
  4. Each member then connects their own Rise account the first time they use it (individual OAuth sign-in) — no shared credentials.

Use it

Start a chat, open the + / tools menu, enable the Rise connector, and ask:

List employees with an April birthday and their compensation.

ChatGPT calls Rise and answers from your data. More ideas on What you can ask.

Troubleshooting

SymptomFix
No way to add a custom connectorPlus/Pro: enable Developer mode. Business/Enterprise/Edu: ask your workspace admin to add and publish it.
OAuth window doesn't open / closes immediatelyAllow pop-ups for ChatGPT and retry. If it asks for a client ID/secret, register an OAuth app.
Connected but "no reports"Your Rise account may not be enabled for the connector yet — email developers@risepeople.com.
"Insufficient scope" when savingReconnect and approve reports:write as well. See insufficient-scope.

Remove it

Disable or delete the Rise connector under Settings → Connectors (admins: in the admin connector settings). Revoking there ends ChatGPT's access; you can also revoke the token from your Rise account.
